St James closed this Tuesday
St James will be closed this Tuesday 1st September, to give our volunteers a much needed break.
Art club, Long Spoons Cafe, and Farsi Bible study will all be back the following Tuesday 8th September
Adult baptisms
This Sunday 30th August, several adult members will be baptised in the service at St James’.
Please pray for them as they prepare to make this commitment to follow the way of Jesus Christ.
Christina Wilson
It is with great sadness we inform you of the death of Christina Wilson, a faithful churchwarden of St James for many years, and friend to many.
We will keep you updated with details of her funeral. In the meantime, please keep Grant, Amy, her grandchildren, and all her loved ones in your prayers.
May she rest in peace and rise in glory.
Christina’s funeral will be
Friday 4th September
12.15pm
at St James Benwell, NE15 6RS
Followed by a reception at the Blue Star Football club, NE15 7BD
Pride in Place funding for a new Kitchen!
The Something Wonderful project has been awarded an incredible £28,097.99 to replace our tired kitchen at St James! This will bring a new lease of life to the Long Spoons Cafe and the hospitality we provide to so many throughout the week.
With huge thanks to the Pride in Place Impact Fund, Newcastle City Council, Mohammad Peivandi for his designs, and Jan Hodgson and David and Gwyn McKenzie from TCTT for helping with our application.
Fr Chris’ last service
Fr Chris’ last service in Benwell will be on Sunday 4th October, 11.15am at St James’. When we’ll have the opportunity to give thanks for his faithful ministry among us and wish him every blessing as he begins this new chapter. After a short break, he will begin his new role in November.
Please keep Fr Chris, our parish, and the people of Christ Church Shieldfield and St Ann’s Battlefield in your prayers during this time of transition
Giving
You are welcome in our churches whether or not you can give financially.
However, we are dependent on donations from our members. If you are able to give financially, please would you set up a regular donation via the Parish Giving Scheme.
You can still give via cash or card, but regular giving via PGS makes accounting and budgeting much easier for our volunteers– meaning we can spend more time caring for our community!
